It was nice to experience a community kicking up its hills like it once did back in another time...without the benefit of Rocky Horror Picture Show! We spent a recent evening celebrating the contributions several important artists and long time VCU professors have made to this community...well, that was the excuse for the party anyway.enjoy the dance floor at Plant 0.
Really, I think this event honored another era - a time when the legal drinking age was 18 and there were places like the Cha Cha Club and the Metropolitan Gallery here in the the shadows of the Old South. It was before my residence in Virginia but the spirit of that era is one of the reasons I felt comfortable settling here after living in New Orleans.
We all work so hard. Art is hard. It is so very ESSENTIAL to be able to let yer hair down once in a while and not fear the fun police. Otherwise lives are spent with hidden addictions.... thats what I think anway - not that fun seekers are all vice free.
There were many receding hair lines at this party but a lot of disco ball illuminated head shaking that came from early years of long tresses and dance clubs. It was almost too good. Too much fun for some. Almost enough for me. I watched the new comers watch the dancers and knew that they would never get it. Either you "got" the song Love Shack or you didn't. We got it.
