Guten Tag!
The welcoming committee at the VCCA met us at the gate for the opening of Exchange, a group exhibition of German artists who have worked at the VCCA and American artists who have worked at the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Bavaria. Harry and I were thrilled to be greeted by the local "residents" and were even happier to toast the visiting German artists Heiner Riepl, Alfred Boschl, Christine Sabel, and Thomas Hanauer, the OK's board president. Exchange celebrates twenty years of residencies between the VCCA and the OK. It features amazing sculpture scattered throughout the grounds of the VCCA as well as every kind of 2-D work imaginable. My exchange experience at the OK is represented by a free standing bookwork and a series of watercolors created in Tibet during July of 2009. An example of the series can be seen here.
In typical Bavarian fashion the opening and performance was followed by an amazing feast featuring the inaugural Oktoberfest keg from a new micro brewery in Lynchburg. If you visit this link you might see a few familiar faces.
