Memory and Present Tense
If you click on the file below you'll experience a more recent draft of "Starry Night," a video short I've been working on this summer. Please feel free to send comments. I'll be tweaking it over the weekend. The drum riffs were created by a friend from BGSU the versatile Louis Simon and the french conversation is a from a collection of language CD's I've assembled over the years with the goal of improving my French. Some version of Starry Night will be on view with dozens of other video and light inspired art on September 5 at 1708 Gallery's 30th Anniversary celebration InLight on Broad St.
ps wow. its amazing... the unexpected things that happen when a file is compressed! What an excellent test and evidence that I have much more work to do.... one aspect that changes drastically is the sound mix. The vocals are much more prominent afterwards. I suspect this is something I have limited control over in iMovie 5.0.2.

Hallo Doll!
Very interesting, what I can see so far... tell me more... in it's compressed mode I can't quite see what's making up that starry, smeary sky...
Comments to date
(1) - maybe pull the voice down in the sound mix a little. I find it a little loud over the beats and it's distorting a bit but that might be a compression thing too.
and (2) - I don't think you need that scratched up old movie filter. I think it detracts from what you're doing. I do get a bee in my bonnet about those digital filters though...
Is that helpful or naggy?

ah - excellent suggestions Sxx - although I've learned since I posted this that I think I may have limited control of certain features with my version of iMovie. The compression did do a number on several aspects - especially the flow. I'll eventually upload it to Youtube but thought this might be a better (softer) way to test it... tho I think a few of the worse problems are due to the limits of bloggers video feature... we'll see soon enough!
last time i was here it wouldn't do anything for me.
so this is the first time i'm able to listen and look at it.
the sound conceivably is a bit loud, but actually that brings it out as a pronounced feature. it's be interesting to see how it does on youtube when you can see it on a larger scale.
foamy... thanks for taking a look.
I will add it to YT when it is fini...
at present it still needs a little tweak here and there.
The sound isn't as loud when it isn't compressed and it will be projected, not compressed, when it will be shown.
